The Audi brand offers a comprehensive lineup of cars, crossovers, and SUVs to meet any buyers specific needs. For 2020, Audi is offering six different SUV models, three wagons, four convertibles, and a huge variety of sedans & coupes – with base prices ranging from $33,300 all the way up to $182,100. They also offer a fully electric SUV (the e-tron), a hybrid SUV, and a hybrid sedan.
Audi is known for their contemporary designs, along with a wide array of advanced technology features.
What you should know about Audi lease deals.
The best Audi lease deals are offered by Audi Financial Services. As their own in-house lending arm, this helps to provide a more seamless acquisition process, and a simple way for customers to maintain their lease accounts.
Like most brands, Audi looks to gain and maintain market share by offering special lease deals. Customers benefit by getting great lease deals that are comparable or a touch more than non-luxury vehicles.
Monthly Lease Payments
Sales / Use Tax
Customers will have to pay sales / use tax on their Audi lease. There is a tax benefit on a lease in that customers only pay tax on the monthly payment and not the entire purchase price.
So if your lease payment is $300 and the sales tax in your area is 8%, your total monthly lease payment will be $300 + $24 (tax) = $324.
This saves customers a considerable amount of money versus finance or cash purchases, especially those who live in a high tax area.
Sales / Use tax is based on your address and not the dealer’s. If you move, your monthly tax will change to the new area. Hopefully, it will be lower.
There are some geographic areas with uncommon tax rules where this scenario does not apply, but it is highly uncommon. It is best to consult with the LeaseGurus Audi dealer in your area for details.
Lowering Your Lease Payment
There are a couple ways to lower your payment.
1) Put additional cash down.
2) Ask for additional discounts.
For either scenario, a $1000 difference will lower the payment by approximately $27 per month.
Putting additional money down makes sense if you have the cash and would like a smaller lease payment in order to meet a monthly budget. This is discussed further in the “Lease Down Payment” section of this page.
As for additional dealer discounts, don’t get upset if there is no more room for negotiation. The Audi lease deals advertised on LeaseGurus.com are aggressively competitive – but it doesn’t hurt to ask.
Another way that customers might be able to lower their lease payment is to explore mileage allowance options. This is discussed further in the “Mileage Terms” section.
Audi Lease Deals with the Cheapest Payment
Generally, the least expensive Audi models will have the lowest lease payments. If you are flexible with your vehicle needs, Audi leases can be quite affordable.
The A3 is the entry level model for Audi. You might see advertised lease deals with payments around the low to mid $300’s with $3,000 to $4,000 down.
Occasionally there will be an exception to the rule. For example, if Audi is pushing a particular model due to special situations (high inventory levels, new model change, etc.), you might have the opportunity to get a crazy low payment on a model. Customers need to keep an eye out because, unfortunately, these types of deals are unpredictable.
Additional Information
Audi Financial will generally allow customers to change their payment due date. Simply contact them at (888) 237-2834.
Does the lease payment include maintenance?
Customers are responsible for maintaining their Audi. Fortunately, maintenance intervals are every 10,000 miles on most Audi models – longer than the traditional 3,000 to 5,000 mile maintenance intervals on other vehicles.
It is important that a leased Audi is properly serviced because the customer can be liable for malfunctions caused by negligence. Preferably, service should be performed by a LeaseGurus Audi dealer.
Lease Down Payment
Choosing to put more or less down payment for your Audi lease deal.
The amount of the down payment is entirely up to you and how you want the structure of your Audi lease to work out. You may want to put more money down to have a lower payment or don’t put any money down and have a higher payment.
Regardless of what you choose, the total of your lease cost (sum of all of your lease payments and down payment) does not change.
There are more customers who choose to keep the cash and pay a higher lease payment, but once again, it is completely up to you.
How down payment changes your lease payment.
For each $1000 in cash down, your lease payment will go down by approximately $27 per month. For example, if you see an offer of $499 a month with $2999 down, you can put $3999 down and get your payment to about $472. Or the opposite, putting $1999 down and getting a payment about $526.
Again, whether you decide to put more down initially and pay less over the term of the lease, or put less down initially and pay more over the term, the total cost does not change.
$0 Down Payment Lease Offers
There are many lease offers advertising $0 down payment. It is important to know that customers might still have to pay lease inception fees.
Fees may include and are not limited to: 1st lease payment, dealer handling, dealer documentation, lease acquisition fee, licensing or titling, etc..
If you are looking for a true $0 out of pocket lease, look for the term “$0 due at lease signing”. The only things that you might have to pay for are government fees (tax, registration, etc.).
Putting a lease down payment on a credit card.
This is typically a dealer policy. Some Audi dealers will accept a credit card for lease down payments and some will not. Other dealers may have a cap on the amount that you can charge. Please ask your the Audi dealer for details.
Putting a lease down payment on a credit card is not advisable, unless you are looking to accumulate some points and have the means to pay the balance when it is due.
Mileage Terms
Audi Lease Mileage Options
Audi offers lessees with the option of having 10K, 12K, or 15K annual mileage allowances. For high mileage driver’s, Audi offers the option of purchasing additional incremental miles above 15K at $0.15 cents per mile. This is much less than the penalty of $0.25 cents per excess mile at lease end.
The lease payment will obviously be more with the higher mileage options, but the overall cost will be much less than if you were to opt for a lower mileage lease and pay excess mileage penalties at the end.
The mileage allowance is a cumulative total for the lease term. For instance, if you choose 15K for a 3 year lease, the total mileage allowance is 45,000 miles. It does not matter how or when the miles are driven.
Excess Mileage Charge
The penalty for excess miles on Audi leases is $0.25 cents per mile. This is consistent with other luxury brands.
Excess mileage is assessed at lease termination. Any charges are also subject to sales tax. For example, if the excess mileage penalty amounts to $3000 and the customer’s sales tax rate is 8%, the total amount due will be $3000 + $240 (Sales Tax) = $3240.
Additional mileage option at lease mid-point.
Audi allows you to purchase additional miles for $0.20 cents per mile at the lease mid-point if you miscalculated and on track to significantly exceed your mileage allowance. The $0.05 cent savings per mile might not seem like much but it adds up quickly if you are looking at a large penalty.
Selecting your mileage options at lease inception.
When you are deciding on mileage allowances, always take a conservative approach using historical driving habits.
If you have always driven an average of 12K to 13K miles per year, try to select the 15K option to leave yourself some cushion. Never select a 10K miles per year lease even though the payments are a touch lower as the penalty can get out of hand for driving over the allowance.
At $0.25 cents per mile, going over by only 3000 miles equates to $750 + tax in penalties.
Will I be charged a mileage penalty if I buy my Audi at the end of the lease?
Customers who buy their Audi after the lease will be not charged a mileage penalty.
Money Factor
What is a money factor?
The money factor is a term for the interest rate on lease deals. The money factor is typically a numeric value that starts with a decimal followed by two zeros and then three numbers. (i.e. 0.00240)
Multiplying the money factor by 2400 will provide a close APR translation. (0.00240 x 2400 = 5.76%)
More detailed information on Money Factors page.
Lease money factors for Audi models.
Money factors can vary from one Audi model to another as well as month by month. The best way to know the money of the Audi model that you are interested in is to ask the dealer for the current rates, as this information is typically not available online.
Audi lease deals with the lowest money factor.
To gain and maintain market share, the cheapest and lowest money factor is generally offered on the best selling and most popular Audi models.
Similar to a brand offering special 0% interest loans for purchases, the lease deals on popular Audi cars and SUV’s will have subsidized money factors to help achieve lower lease payments and terms.
How do you know the money factor on an Audi lease deal?
Unlike a traditional loan, the money factor is not disclosed on the lease contract. If you would like to know the money factor, again try asking the dealer.
Bear in mind that a great lease deal will traditionally have a low money factor so worrying about the exact money factor shouldn’t be critically important.
Credit Requirements
General Credit Profile
You will generally need to be a well qualified customer to take advantage of the best Audi lease deals.
“Well qualified” typically means that you have a top tier credit score, established credit history including medium to large accounts (car or home), no delinquencies or collections, and no bankruptcies. There could be other factors, but the above are normally the most important.
Unlike a traditional finance purchase where a customer might have options with multiple lenders (bank, credit union, etc.), only one lender, the financial division of Audi will give the best and possibly the only lease deals. That means that if you are interesting in leasing an Audi, maintaining a good credit file is very important because if you are not approved with Audi, you might have to consider another brand or wait until your credit improves.
Customers with Average Credit
Similar to finance purchases, you might still be eligible to get approved by Audi for a lease deal if your credit is not the best, but understand that your interest rate money factor might be higher and subsequently your payment will be higher due to the higher credit risk.
Credit Score
The credit score is a significant factor but is not the end all of the requirements. Consistent with the general credit profile, credit depth, account history, and previous credit types are but a few examples of other factors.
For instance, if you have a high credit score but are lacking some of the other factors, you might not get approved by Audi and conversely, if you have a lower score but are strong with the other factors, you might get approved.
Understand that there are 3 credit reporting agencies and many scoring models. The score that you might have from an online resource may not necessarily be the scoring model that Audi financial uses. Like some other lenders, Audi might provide you with the opportunity to use a higher report score. The dealer can assist you with this.
What credit score is considered top tier for Audi?
Like other lending guidelines, a score in the mid 700’s is generally considered top tier.
College Graduate Program
If you are a recent college graduate, you might be eligible to get approved to lease an Audi even if you do not have any credit or do not meet any of the other requirements. Rules for this program can change but for now, here are some details.
- You graduated in the past 24 months, or will graduate in the next six months from a 2 or 4 year accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university.
- You have a full-time job, or you have a written commitment from a future employer.
- You are a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
Additional program details:
- No security deposit on a new lease
- No credit history required (if you have existing credit, it must be in good standing)
- Competitive rates even if you have no credit
- No co-signer required
There can be other factors, but your dealer can help with you with this.
First Time Buyer
A first time buyer is someone with little or no credit even though he or she might have a credit score. Unfortunately, like other lenders, Audi does not have a first time buyer program, other than the College Graduate Program listed above. You will most likely need to get a strong co-signer if you fit under this profile.
Get Pre-Approved
It is always a good idea to get pre-approved so that you know with certainty the lease deal that you qualify for. Ensure that you submit your application with the dealer that you intend to make a deal with to avoid additional credit inquiries.
Residual Values
Lease residuals for Audi models.
Audi lease residuals will vary by model and can change monthly.
Multiple factors contribute to how Audi determines a residual value.
Residual values are always a percentage of the original M.S.R.P. and not the selling price.
Residual values are disclosed on the lease contract.
Audi models with the highest residual values.
Generally, less expensive Audi models will have higher residual values because they depreciate less.
New and freshly changed models will typically have higher residual values.
SUV’s and crossovers also have higher residual values compared to cars due to the growing demand in the marketplace.
Selecting a model with a high residual value often provide the benefit of providing a lower lease payment.
The negative of having a high residual value is if a customer decides to purchase the car at lease end because the cost is higher.
Audi models with low residual values.
More expensive Audi models will generally have lower residual values because expensive units depreciate more.
Audi models with low residual values will usually provide a higher lease payment.
At times, if Audi needs to push a particular model with a low residual value, Audi will provide additional incentives to achieve a lower payment.
With a low residual value, customers can benefit by getting a low price if the vehicle is purchased at lease end.
Can I change or set a residual value?
Customers will not have any control over the residual value.
The only impact that a customer can have on the residual is selecting different mileage terms. For instance, selecting 15,000 miles per year will have a lower residual value than 10,000 miles per year.
Residual Value at lease end.
The residual value determines the purchase price should a customer decide to buy his / her Audi at the end of the lease.
This purchase price is reserved only for the lessee on Audi leases and not available to a third party at lease end.
Acquisition and Disposition Fees
Audi lease acquisition fee is $895.
The acquisition fee is charged by Audi at the start of the lease.
This charge is consistent across most lease deals from all other brands.
Lease acquisition fees do vary from lender to lender, but at $895, the Audi fee is within the range of luxury vehicle lease deals.
This is not a dealer fee.
Audi lease disposition fee is $495.
This turn in fee will be assessed at the end of your lease. At $495, the fee is consistent with other luxury car leases.
Often times, this fee will be waived if you lease a new Audi to replace the expiring Audi lease.
