Leasing a New Acura

The Acura brand has become known for reliability and low maintenance costs, which has translated into higher resale value than many brands in the luxury category. Higher resale value equates to higher residual values for leasing, which in turn means lower monthly payments. This makes Acura a smart choice for people who are looking for a lot of car without breaking the bank.

For 2020, the Acura lineup of models are: ILX, TLX, RLX, RDX, MDX, and NSX.

What to know about Acura lease deals

Acura leases are offered through Acura Financial Services. As Acura’s own, in-house financing & leasing company, they have a vested interest in helping people acquire their vehicles. To remain competitive with the market, they usually have some type of special incentives to encourage customers to become owners.

Monthly Payment

Lease payments on any new vehicle are determined by a number of factors. These include the price of the vehicle, dealer discount, residual value, money factor, mileage allowance, and a variety of fees that may apply.

Without having all of the above details, there is no way to calculate an accurate lease payment. The easiest way to find the lowest lease payment for a new Acura is to scroll up this page, choose a model, then use the links to view current lease offers from Acura dealers near you.

Sales / Use Tax

One thing to know about leases is that local sales tax is on top of your monthly payment.

For example, if your city has a local sales tax rate of 6% and the vehicle you’ve chosen has a monthly payment of $300, this would amount to an additional $18 per month, giving you a total monthly payment of $318.

Local sales tax is not included in advertised prices because they are based on where you live – not the location of the dealer. Also, if you move to another city where the tax rate is either higher or lower, the amount of tax you will pay will adjust after you update Acura Financial Services of the address change.

Which Acura model has the cheapest payment?

Although this isn’t always the case, the cheapest cars on the lot will generally provide the cheapest monthly lease payments. However, there are times when another, more expensive car may have a lower payment. This could be a result of the more expensive car having a higher residual value, a lower money factor, or an aggressive special program being offered by Acura Financial Services.

For 2020 and 2021 Acura models, the cheapest car to lease is the ILX, which has a base price of $25,900. That is $6,100 cheaper than the TLX, the next cheapest model.

How can I get a lower monthly payment?

Leasees have several ways to achieve a lower monthly payment. The first and most obvious is to select a car with a lower MSRP. Whether it be a lower trim package or a unit with fewer options, a lower price generally translates into a lower monthly payment.

Secondly, of course customers can try to negotiate a better deal. It may be difficult to get additional discounts off of an advertised deal like you’ll find on LeaseGurus, but customers walking in off the street should be able to get a fair discount on most models.

Although the length of term, residual value, and other factors come into play, as a general rule, customers can assume their payment will be $27 less for every $1000 in discount. So, if you negotiated a $54 lower monthly payment, you could assume the dealer has given you a discount of roughly $2000.

Also, customers should pay attention to the mileage allowance being quoted by the dealer. For example, Acura offers leases with mileage allowances of 10,000, 12,000, and 15,000 miles per year. Most dealers will quote customers on a 10,000 mile per year lease, but be sure to ask. If they are quoting you a payment based on a higher mileage allowance than you need, you’ll be paying for miles you won’t use.

How much do options affect a monthly payment?

Options and premium packages do not affect monthly payments in the same way that discounts do. For example, a $1000 dealer discount on a vehicle translates into roughly $27 in discount. However…..(help Peter).

Can I choose my preferred due date?

In most cases, yes. There should be a small window of dates you can choose from while at the dealer, signing your lease agreement. If you have already taken possession of the vehicle and want to change your due date, contact Acura Financial Services.

Does my monthly payment include maintenance?

No, maintenance programs are not automatically included in Acura leases. However, maintenance programs may be purchased and included in your monthly payment when signing the lease agreement.

Down Payment

Zero Money Down Lease Deals

Leases that advertise ‘zero money down’ don’t necessarily mean ‘no money out of your pocket’. Typically, these deals will require customers to come up with some combination of their first months payment, security deposit, inception fees, and additional dealer fees.

Cash Down Payments

Customers who have cash to put down can expect a monthly payment that is approximately $27 less per month – for every $1000 down. For example, a customer who puts $3,000 cash down on top of the lease inception requirements could expect their monthly payment to be roughly $81 less ($27 x 3 = $81).

Is it Smart to Make a Down Payment on an Acura Lease?

Well, that’s entirely up to you – as long as your credit is good enough that Acura Financial Services isn’t requiring money down.

Any money a customer puts down comes directly off of their monthly payment. It doesn’t matter whether you put down additional money or not, you will pay the same total amount either way.

For example, a zero-down, 36 month lease deal with a $400 payment would total $14,400 in monthly payments. If you put $3,000 down, your monthly payments will total $11,400, giving you a payment of about $316.

With all of this said, some people prefer to keep their money in the bank or to use for other things, while others prefer to put money down and have a lower monthly commitment.

Mileage Terms

Acura offers three different mileage terms, which are 10,000, 12,000, and 15,000 miles per year. When dealers are quoting payments to customers, they are typically based on a 10,000 mile/yr lease.

Customers who drive more than 10,000 miles per year need to voice this to their salesperson and get a mileage allowance that fits their driving tendencies. Of course, mileage allowances are based on the total length of the lease term.

For example, a 36 month lease with a 15,000 mile per year allowance means the customer can drive a total of 45,000 miles during the lease term.

Acura Financial Mileage Forgiveness

Though the Mileage Forgiveness Program, Acura Financial Services offers customers the ability to waive half of their excess mileage – up to 7,500 total miles.

For example, if you had a 10,000 mile per year, 3 year lease, you would be allowed to drive 30,000 total miles. But, if you returned the car with 45,000 miles (15,000 additional), they would waive half of those miles and only charge you for the remaining 7,500.

In addition, if you were to lease a new Acura to replace the one you’ve returned, they’ll give you an additional 1,000 miles on your new vehicle.

Acura Financial Momentum Miles

Momentum Miles is a program that we really like. It allows customers to get all of the miles they’ve paid for by regaining unused miles from a previous lease. Here’s how it works:

Customers who drive fewer miles than their lease allowed will get those miles added to their new Acura lease for free (up to 15,000 miles).

For example, if you’re returning a vehicle that had a 36,000 mile total allowance, but you returned it with only 21,000 miles, you would have an additional 15,000 miles added to your next lease.

This would mean you could get a 10,000 mile per year lease (30,000 over the length of the term) on your next vehicle – giving you a lower monthly payment, and you would be able to drive up to 45,000 miles.

Should I Lease a 2019 or 2020 Model?

Pros and cons about leasing the last model or current model. Mention change in residuals etc., remind people that there may be changes or complete redesign between model years, etc etc.. Keep it generic information because actual design changes will be written on the model pages. Also find a way to include the next model year, in this case, 2021.
